Unlike vane actuators, piston actuators have internal springs giving a smaller and more compact assembly. Two pistons would deliver twice the thrust of one piston but take up twice the space. On a single piston actuator, increasing the piston diameter by only 41% doubles the thrust. This is why the F-series, single piston actuator, is smaller than multi-piston actuators. Unlike most multi-piston actuators, the F-series has the springs on the opposite side of the piston. This leads to many advantages. Because the springs lie either side of the pinion, the size of the F-series actuator is not increased by the addition of springs. These features make the Spring Return F-series the smallest pneumatic actuator on the market today. |
