Efficiency (S/R)
It is inefficient and wasteful to pressurise a dead
volume and then to exhaust it to atmosphere. Any dead cavities
within the actuators are wasteful for this reason. This is why
the F-series actuator has springs on the inside of the piston.
Actuators with springs on the outside of the piston have greater
dead cavity because of the clearance around pinion.
With the F-series actuator the piston abuts the
flat cover. This reduces the dead volume of the pressure chamber
to nearly zero.
